چکیده

It is well known that the feeding ad libitum of high protein diets to rats over a period varying from several days to several weeks produces an increase in the activities of enzymes involved in amino acid catabolism (3-8). Studies in our laboratory have shown that at least two amino -acid-catabolizing enzymes, threonine dehydrase and ornithine transaminase, can be elevated to high levels within a few hours in the livers of protein-depleted rats fed casein hydrolysate by stomach tube (9-11). In the long term adaptation studies cited above, as well as in our rapid induction experiments, relatively nonspecific dietary inducing agents were used, and no information was obtained on the possible existence of specific dietary requirements for the induction of individual amino acid catabolizing enzymes. To date, tryptophan pyrrolase is the only mammalian enzyme that has received thorough study with respect to its induction requirements (1217). Other very limited studies on threonine dehydrase induction have yielded contradictory results (18, 19). The present investigation was designed to determine whether or not a degree of specificity exists in the dietary amino acid requirements for the induction of threonine dehydrase and ornithine transaminase. In these studies the rapid induction of threonine dehydrase and ornithine transaminase was measured as a function of the qualitative and quantitative composition of a mixture of free amino acids administ.ered to rats by stomach tube.

Studies on the Induction and Repression of Enzymes in Rat Liver II. CARBOHYDRATE REPRESSION OF DIETARY AND HORMONAL INDUCTION OF THREOKINE DEHYDRASE AND ORNITHINE &TRANSAMINASE*

Previous reports from this laboratory (2, 3) have described the rapid induction of threonine dehydrase and ornithine transaminase in rat liver by the force feeding of casein hydrolysate. Preliminary evidence that this induction was repressed by dietary glucose, but not by dietary fat, was also presented (2). The present paper includes a comparison of the induction patterns obtained by casein hy...

Theoretical Thermodynamic Study of Solvent Effects on Serine and Threonine Amino Acids at Different Temperatures

The thermodynamic functions such as enthalpy (H), Gibbs free energy (G) and entropy (S) of Serineand Threonine amino acids were theoretically studied at different condition (solvents andtemperatures) by using Gussian o3, software. First, the structural optimization of isolated Serine andThreonine were done in the gas phase by using the Hartree-Fock (HF) level of theory with 3-21G, 6-31G and 6-3...

Substrate induction of threonine dehydrase in vivo and in perfused rat livers.

The activity of the enzyme threonine dehydrase in the livers of mice and rats is increased by the intraperitoneal injection of threonine, while that of serine dehydrase shows no change. The injection of a comparable amount of L-serine produces no increase in the activity of either L-serine dehydrase or L-threonine dehydrase. This is substantiating evidence that these two dehydrases are separate...

Enzymes of the isoleucine-valine pathway in Acinetobacter.

Regulation of four of the enzymes required for isoleucine and valine biosynthesis in Acinetobacter was studied. A three- to fourfold derepression of acetohydroxyacid synthetase was routinely observed in two different wild-type strains when grown in minimal medium relative to cells grown in minimal medium supplemented with leucine, valine, and isoleucine. A similar degree of synthetase derepress...
